Prednisolone tablets and liquid: steroid medicine

If you have diabetes, you will need increased monitoring of your blood sugar levels while you have the steroids and may need to be admitted to hospital to be offered additional insulin treatment. If you normally wear contact lenses, you might need to avoid wearing these while having treatment with steroid eye drops. Steroids are a man-made version of chemicals, known as hormones, that are made naturally in the human body. Steroids are designed to act like these hormones to reduce inflammation.

Effects on other treatments

Checking for an infection is also important because steroids can make infections worse. When you take prednisolone, you could begin to feel better within a few days. However, it can take longer for some people to notice an effect. Everyone responds differently to medicines, and some people don’t respond at all.
